| Biography | Rev. Wylie was elected the second president of Washington College on April 30, 1817, a year after resigning as president of Jefferson College. He was born April 12, 1789, in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Jefferson College in 1810. During his presidency additions to the original academy building (now McMillan Hall) were completed. One of the graduates under Wylie was William Holmes McGuffey, Class of 1826, famous for his McGuffey Readers. Rev. Wylie resigned in December, 1828, and accepted the position of president at the University of Indiana. He died in Bloomington, Indiana, on November 11, 1851. |
