BiographyDr. G. Andrew Rembert was named interim president of Washington & Jefferson College on March 5, 2004, following the announcement by Dr. Brian C. Mitchell of his resignation.

A senior College administrator, Dr. Rembert came to W&J in 1991. He served as vice president of academic affairs and dean of the college from 1991 to 2002. During this time he offered guidance and insight into the College's revised academic curriculum, which was launched in the fall of 2002. He also contributed to the Blueprint for Collaboration, developed to establish a shared vision for the future between Washington & Jefferson College and the city of Washington. Dr. Mitchell, Washington & Jefferson College's 11th president, named Dr. Rembert executive vice president of the College in 2002. In this capacity Dr. Rembert directed development of the College's current strategic plan for growth.

Dr. Rembert, who is also a professor of philosophy, holds a bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University, an honours degree from Oxford University and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.

Prior to his work at Washington & Jefferson College, Dr. Rembert was vice president of the university, dean of academic affairs and professor of philosophy at St. Lawrence University in New York; vice president for academic affairs and dean of arts and sciences at Lewis & Clark College in Oregon, and assistant dean of the faculty, chair of the freshman core program and associate professor of philosophy at Colgate University in New York.

Dr. Rembert and his wife Bette have three children.
