Rev. McMillan was elected the fourth president of Jefferson College on September 24, 1817, at a salary of $600 per annum. He was a nephew of Rev. John McMillan, one of the founders of Jefferson College, and was a member of the Class of 1802, the first class to graduate from Jefferson College. Rev. McMillan resigned August 14, 1822, after the Board of Trustees dropped charges the faculty had brought against several students for slandering his teaching and administrative abilities. He died November 16, 1833.
