The stone Academy building dates to 1793 and is said to be the eighth oldest academic building in the United States still in use for its original purpose. The original dimensions were 35 by 30 feet and two stories in height. The building was occupied on April 10, 1797, and included a library and reading room, and the main hall also served as a Presbyterian place of worship.
