Sometime after 1971, the basement of the Old Gym was renovated and discontinued as an athletic facility. The swimming pool was filled in and the old locker rooms and training rooms were converted into offices and meeting rooms. By 1984, the lower level of the Old Gym housed the headquarters for the U.S. Army detachment of the ROTC and their offices and student classrooms. The College radio station, WJCR-FM, and Student Government headquarters were also located on this level. With the departure of Army ROTC from campus in 1991, the lower level space was reallocated among student organizations and activities. The radio station, yearbook, and newspaper offices were located here along with Student Government, Greek Council and other offices and meeting rooms.
